Looking to 2010:
The ‘New Normal’ in Storage
The New NormalBy Tom Cook, CEO, Permabit
As buying behavior has forever changed, companies have gone to short–term solutions such as eliminating storage purchases and only spending budget on maintenance and support. By shutting down purchasing, companies are now forced to push up utilization. If you do the math, on average an organization’s storage is 60% utilized (and information is growing at 40%). By simply saying “no,” they can put off new purchases for 18 months and then, if they eliminate the redundant information and other inefficiencies, they can push purchases off another 18 months. That means many organizations don’t need to purchase more storage for as long as three years! |
